Kreator - Pleasure To Kill (1986)

The German's second thrash assault, adorned in wonderfully demonic cover which epitomised the potency of European metal. This record has a lot of early Slayer about it, the drums crashing in and going full throttle, the guitars ripping the face and the song structures at times sounding like they were influenced by Slayer's mighty 'Reign In Blood', and such rumbling were mighty fine representation of what thrash metal was all about.

'Ripping Corpse', 'Riot Of Violence' and 'Flag Of Hate' ( included on the remastered version)have gone down as thrash classics whilst the climax of the record overwhelms in the form of the roasting 'Awakening Of The Gods'. Vocal duties are shared here, Mille Petrozza provides the dry lung rasps whilst drummer Jurgein Reil also weighs in with a few tracks which sound more like early Possessed, another great band. However, I'm not completely sure the vocal changes were right for the record, Kreator weren't The Beatles but a powerful thrash act who surely don't require such alterations. Even so, if you believe you own the perfect thrash metal collection then I assume this record is in it.

8/10
