Destruction - Sentence Of Death (1984)

Released on the Steamhammer label, these German thrashers were certainly among the European thrash metal elite, file nicely alongside Kreator, Coroner, early Voivod, Celtic Frost, Destruction's brand of black thrash inspiring dozens of black metal bands to form more than a decade later. The five tracks on offer may only reach to twenty-minutes, but it's essential assault of the ear-drums, the band screaming through technical, harsh and leather-studded metal, from the galloping 'Black Mass' to battering 'Satans Vengeance', the band would certainly improve musically and production wise after this, but anyone seeking a a primal chasm of razor-blade thrash look no further than this.

The album was also reissued in a double cd pack along with 'Infernal Overkill'.

7/10
