Motley Crue - New Tattoo (2000)

I'm loving this. Crue's first real 'Crue' record since 'Dr Feelgood', providing the sleaze, swagger, sex, sweat and cheeky charm we've come to know and love. I guess it seems kinda tragic that I've been gagging for this kind of dose despite the band putting out the very serious self-titled opus and dynamic 'Generation...' and yet I'm enjoying this brothel of sound far more. Vince is back on form, Nikki's songs at times do sound like throw backs to the early '80s, 'Punched In The Teeth By Love' has all the quality of a 'Too Fast For Love', 'New Tattoo' and 'Hollywood Ending' are more of the usual Crue serenades, but there's some real weight on here, yet played how only Crue know how. '1st Band On The Moon' and pumping 'She Needs Rock N Roll' may seem basic, but these are the anthems we've craved since 'Kickstart My Heart' and the bombastic 'Sticky Sweet', so the punkoid frenzy of 'Dragstrip Superstar' and guttural howl of 'Treat Me Like The Dog I Am' will have female fans peeling off their tops and us men chanting to the sky, as the boys once again deliver us a thunderous carnival of sin, lust, lipstick and old fashioned glam rock.

8/10
