Ripping Corpse - Dreaming With The Dead (1991)

Somewhat a cult item this, Ripping Corpse combine startling speed, technicality in abundance and a raw, searing style of death-thrash that was tragically to only last one record. The band features Erik Rutan who went on to feature heavily in Morbid Angel, and for many 'Dreaming...' remains an underground death metal classic. Twelve tracks of punishing, vicious thrash that never lets up, from the opening chords of 'Sweetness' to the face-scorching 'Glorious Depravity' and the ear-shredding mid-pace of 'Through The Skin To The Soul'. This is indeed refreshingly complex death metal boosted by the vocal rawness and swirling solo's. I'm not sure how easy it is to pick this record up now, but track it down and prepare to be flayed, because it's one of those thrash-death records that needs to be purchased.

7.5/10
