Defender - City Ad Mortis (1987)

A nifty little EP from an obscure bunch of thrashers who seem to have a strong early Metallica influence in their sound ('Die For You'). Defender are a decent little act who know how to thrash, albeit without any identity, but there's enough here to rescue it from being totally mundane, the musicianship is mainly tight, 'Deadly Peril' boasting a chainsaw guitar and rattling drum. There must have been so many records like this released in the '80s, goodness how so many acts made their money, althought I'm guessing they didn't hence the fact they faded into obscurity but when you do come across an EP like this it's still a rewarding experience even if you've heard this sound countless times before. 6/10
