Midnight - Satanic Royalty (2011)

Well I never thought I'd hear the day when Venom and Motorhead combine!! Midnight are 100% black n' roll - as oily, greasy, loud and pitch black as it gets, and with hideous track titles such as 'Rip This Hell,' You Can't Stop Steel' and 'Lust, Filth And Sleaze' I'm wondering what gutter these guys crawled from ? This is impure, rusty metal that is so high on Venom and Motorhead that you'll be scrubbing for months afterwards. That's not to say this is a dodgy rip off, far from it, the band know how to rock out, but it's so damn noisy that a majority of metalheads are gonna be reaching for their Kiss albums. Midnight play it loud and dirty, particularly on the punk frenzy of 'You can't Stop...' which exists as some anti-social entity that constantly spits in the face of the mundane and hits the face like a knuckle duster. 'Rip This Hell' is a bizarre Motorhead/Venom hybrid - a sickening chimera that pounds away at the senses like only Motorhead and Venom could. A real nod to the satanic biker days in a sense, 'Satanic Royalty' is a harsh lesson that some may find too gritty, but for me, anything that can combine Motorhead's juggernaut groove with Venom's cruel sneer and black witchery has to be a winner - or moreso a sinner! 7/10
