Mantas - Winds Of Change (1988)

Winds of change inded, but for the better ? Nope. Mantas. Once the leather clad guitar slayer of fearsome trio Venom, who, in '88 decided to quit worshipping the dark side and opt for something considerably less ominous. This is simply as weak as gnat's piss, a keyboard laden, stereotypical late '80s metal record thyat drowns in cheesy hair metal atmosphere's with Satan long fleeing the roost in horror that one of his disciples has turned to the big hair production. It's all extremely basic, and flooded with keyboards, so much so that the guitars sink to the bottom without a gasp. If you were young, reckless and driving ona highway with the wind in your hair, you might be mistaken into thinking that this was great fodder for late night drive time radio, and whilst we can't criticise people for experimenting, Mantas has truly created a dead duck here. This pompous rock, but not in a good way, everything about it is mundane and formulaic and yet I must include it because it goesw to show how something so drab can exist even when it involves someone like Mantas. Track titles are irrelevant, but 'Let It Rock' pretty much sums up the whole slushy experience, only 'Nowhere To Run' displays balls but they are soon shaved by the cutting keyboards. 4/10
