Sacrilege - Within The Prophecy (1987)

There is something emphatically epic about Sacrilege. It's the combination of those criminally underated yet decidedly killer riffs, the vast song structures and the whole mystical feel. I'm a sucker for this doom-laden thrash, and those aggressive female vocals work every time, as opener 'Within The Prophecy' lumbers in, getting faster and faster, the groove something akin to a doomier Slayer but these guys are far more inventive, efforltessly gliding into some truly monolithic songs such as the eleven minute 'Search Eternal' which is epic warrior power metal. The track is sewn together by another cold steel riff and those clattering drums. Hard to believe this is British metal, and harder still to believe that these guys never got any type of recognition despite a handful of masterful records. 8/10
